The Bold & Beautiful Washed-Rind Classic from Burgundy
Époisses is a legendary French washed-rind cheese made from cow’s milk and hailing from the village of Époisses in Burgundy. It’s famed for its pungent aroma, oozing orange-hued rind, and intensely savoury flavour. The cheese is washed repeatedly in Marc de Bourgogne (a local brandy), giving it its trademark funk and bold character.
Beneath the sticky rind lies a soft, gooey paste that practically collapses under its own weight when perfectly ripe. The taste is rich, meaty, salty, and slightly sweet – an experience for those who love a cheese with presence.
A favourite of Napoleon and celebrated by food lovers around the world, Époisses is AOC protected and best enjoyed at room temperature with a spoon, crusty bread, and a glass of Burgundy.
