The Cheesemonger’s Notes
Unpasteurised English blue cheese with creamy texture and refined, aromatic complexity
Oxford Blue is a distinguished English artisan blue cheese created by Robert Pouget, founder of the Oxford Cheese Company and one of the true pioneers of modern British cheesemongering. First made in 1995, Oxford Blue represents Pouget’s vision to craft a blue cheese that captured the richness of traditional European styles while expressing its own distinctly English character.
Made using unpasteurised cow’s milk and matured for around 14 to 16 weeks, Oxford Blue develops a beautifully creamy texture with delicate blue veining throughout the paste. Its natural rind becomes slightly sticky as it matures, helping the cheese retain moisture and enhancing its depth of flavour.
The result is a blue cheese that is rich yet balanced. Expect a smooth, creamy mouthfeel with gentle spice, tangy brightness, and subtle savoury depth. Compared to stronger blues, Oxford Blue offers refinement and elegance, making it both approachable and deeply satisfying.
This is a cheese born from passion, creativity, and a lifelong dedication to craft — a true modern classic of British artisan cheesemaking.
