Why Norfolk for Spirits?

There isn't one simple answer – and that's part of what makes Norfolk spirits interesting.

Whisky has a particularly strong connection with the county's agricultural landscape. Norfolk is one of Britain's great barley-growing areas, providing a natural starting point for a spirit made from malted grain.

Gin is a different story. Here, the individuality comes from the distiller's choice and balance of juniper and other botanicals.

Vodka puts the emphasis on the base spirit, distillation and purity, while rum allows producers to explore blending, ageing, spices and flavour. Liqueurs open the possibilities even further.

Unlike wine, where the vineyard provides an obvious connection between the land and the bottle, provenance in spirits can mean different things for different producers.
