Cheese Delivery & Freshness

Whilst we always aim for prompt delivery, courier delivery dates cannot be guaranteed, and occasional delays do occur. The good news is that cheese is far more resilient than many people realise. Most traditional cheeses can comfortably withstand short transit delays and, in the vast majority of cases, delayed parcels arrive in excellent condition. If your parcel is delayed, simply refrigerate your cheese on arrival and allow it to come back to room temperature before serving. For more information, please see our Cheese Care Guide

The Cheesemonger’s Notes

A stunning showcase of the finest Norfolk-made cheeses

Celebrate the taste of Norfolk with The Best of Norfolk – Artisan Cheese Hamper, a handpicked collection of exceptional, locally made cheeses that showcase the county’s proud dairy heritage. Each cheese in this selection is crafted by Norfolk’s most talented cheesemakers — a perfect reflection of the quality, character, and creativity that define cheese from Norfolk.

From creamy and mellow to rich and savoury, this hamper brings together the Best of British and the Best of Norfolk, featuring only the finest cow’s milk, goat’s milk, and ewe’s milk cheeses — all complemented with artisan crackers and local chutney. It’s the perfect gift for cheese lovers and an irresistible centrepiece for any cheeseboard.

This hamper showcases products from independent Norfolk producers — discover the makers behind the food in our Norfolk Producer Hub →

Inside this hamper you’ll find:

  • Norfolk Mardler (approx. 250g) – Made by The Goat Shed (Fielding Cottage) in Honingham. A semi-hard goat’s milk cheese with a clean, fresh flavour and a gentle tang. Distinctly Norfolk and a true farmhouse favourite.
  • Wissington (approx. 250g) – Handmade by Becky Enefer at Wilton Farm, using pure ewe’s milk from her own flock. This smooth, creamy cheese offers gentle nutty tones and a soft, buttery texture — a wonderful example of Norfolk’s growing reputation for exceptional ewe’s milk cheeses.
  • Norbert (approx 200gms in its own container) – Created by Norfolk & Better, Norbert is Norfolk’s own take on Camembert — its name blending the first three letters of Norfolk with the last three of Camembert. Brined, matured, and hand-turned for a rich, buttery texture and mellow, savoury depth, this is Norfolk indulgence at its finest.
  • Norfolk Dapple (approx. 250g) – Handmade by Ferndale Farm in Little Barningham. A firm, traditional cow’s milk cheese with a beautiful dappled rind and deep, nutty, rounded flavour. One of Norfolk’s best-known and most-loved hard cheeses.
  • Jiffler (approx. 250g) – Made by Norfolk & Better, this luscious, velvety cow’s milk cheese develops a natural rind and subtle herbal notes. Brined, aged, and perfected for a clean, savoury flavour with a delicate touch of salt — a true reflection of Norfolk craftsmanship.
  • Pack of artisan cheese crackers – Specially chosen to pair beautifully with both soft and hard cheeses.
  • Jar of The Garden Pantry chutney – Handmade in Norfolk using seasonal ingredients; the perfect sweet and tangy partner to local cheese.

Freshness & storage

Most of our cheeses are hand-cut to order, and while every effort is made to be as accurate as possible, the quoted weights are approximate. Cheeses are cut on the day of dispatch or at most the day before, ensuring maximum freshness and quality.

please note, due to seasonality we may on occasions need to make substitutions

Cut cheeses have a minimum shelf life of 10 days from the date of cutting.

Cheese is far more robust than many assume — it’s designed to travel and mature naturally. For expert advice on how to look after your cheese, visit our blog on cheese refrigeration and storage.

Packaging

At The Norfolk Deli, our focus is on quality and care, not fancy packaging. We don’t use decorative wicker hampers for our cheeseboards — instead, your cheeses are packed in appropriately sized boxes with ice packs and insulation, ensuring they arrive in perfect, tip-top condition, ready to enjoy

The price includes postage and packing, as well as a personalised handwritten message, making this the perfect ready-to-send gift for any cheese lover.

  • Cheese Delivery Delayed?

Cheese is a living, matured food. It is considerably more resilient than many people assume and was enjoyed for centuries before refrigerated transport existed.

  • Trusted Cheesemonger

For over 12 years, The Norfolk Deli has been immersed in cheese, recognised nationally as one of the country’s inspirational independent cheesemongers. Every cheese is selected and cut with care

  • Serving Guide

As part of a cheeseboard, 250g typically serves 2–4 people. For gatherings of 4–6, a selection of three to five cheeses creates a more generous and varied board

Answering your everyday cheese questions

How long will this cheese last?

All cheeses are cut fresh at the counter and dispatched in insulated packaging.

For the best flavour, we recommend enjoying within 5–7 days of delivery. Hard cheeses may last longer if stored correctly.

How should I store this cheese?

Keep refrigerated in its original wrapping or waxed paper. Avoid airtight plastic containers. Always bring to room temperature 30–45 minutes before serving for the best flavour and texture.

Is this cheese suitable for freezing?

We don’t recommend freezing soft or blue cheeses as it can affect texture. Hard cheeses may be frozen for cooking purposes, but flavour is best when enjoyed fresh.

What if my cheese has mould on it?

Mould is a natural part of many artisan cheeses.

If the cheese is meant to have a white rind, blue veining or natural mould, this is completely normal and part of its character.

If you notice surface mould on a hard cheese, it can usually be trimmed away safely — simply cut at least 1cm around and beneath the mould.

If mould appears on a soft cheese that is not intended to have mould, or if you are unsure, please contact us and we will advise.

We only dispatch cheeses in excellent condition, selected at peak maturity.

Is this cheese safe during pregnancy?

Pasteurised cheeses are generally considered safe. If a cheese is unpasteurised, this will be clearly stated in the Key Facts section. If unsure, please consult current NHS guidance

Can I request a specific size?

Weights are approximate to ensure fairness and quality. If you require a specific size for an event, please contact us before ordering.

Can this cheese be included in a hamper or cheeseboard selection?

Yes. Many of our cheeses are available in curated cheeseboards, gift hampers or our Cheesemonger’s Selection.
