Cheese Delivery & Freshness

Your cheese is cut fresh to order from our cheese counter, carefully wrapped and packed for delivery. We dispatch cheese Monday to Thursday, deliberately avoiding Friday dispatches so that your cheese isn't left in the courier network over the weekend.Whilst we always aim for prompt delivery, courier delivery dates cannot be guaranteed, and occasional delays do occur. The good news is that cheese is far more resilient than many people realise. Most traditional cheeses can comfortably withstand short transit delays and, in the vast majority of cases, delayed parcels arrive in excellent condition. If your parcel is delayed, simply refrigerate your cheese on arrival and allow it to come back to room temperature before serving. For more information about delivery, storing your cheese and what to do when it arrives, please see our Cheese Delivery & Care Guide →

Make More of Your Selection

The Cheesemonger’s Notes

Five Norfolk cheeses. Four independent cheesemakers. Three types of milk. One very good cheeseboard.

Norfolk makes some extraordinary cheese. And we're fortunate enough to work with many of the people responsible for making it.

The Norfolk Cheeseboard brings together five distinctive cheeses from four independent Norfolk cheesemakers, showcasing just how varied and accomplished our county's cheesemaking has become.

From rich, creamy soft cheese and mature, nutty hard varieties to the fresh, delicate character of goat's and ewe's milk cheeses, this is a selection designed to demonstrate the remarkable diversity of Norfolk cheese.

You'll discover cheeses from The Goat Shed, Wilton Farm, Ferndale Farm and Norfolk & Better, each bringing their own approach, expertise and personality to the cheeseboard.

And because we're cheesemongers, not simply hamper packers, every cheese has been selected for the contribution it makes to the complete selection.

Five cheeses. Approximately 1.2kg. All made in Norfolk.

Inside this cheeseboard you'll find

The cheeses

Norfolk Mardler (approx. 250g)

Made by The Goat Shed in Honingham, Norfolk.

A semi-hard goat's milk cheese with a clean, fresh flavour and gentle tang. Smooth, approachable and wonderfully versatile, Norfolk Mardler brings the distinctive character of goat's milk to the selection.

Wissington (approx. 250g)

Made by Becky Enefer at Wilton Farm, Norfolk.

Produced using ewe's milk from the farm's own flock, Wissington has a beautifully creamy texture with gentle nutty notes and a rich, buttery character.

An excellent example of the quality of Norfolk's artisan sheep's milk cheeses.

Norbert (approx. 200g in its own box)

Made by Norfolk & Better.

Norfolk's answer to Camembert, Norbert takes its name from the first three letters of Norfolk and the last three of Camembert.

Brined, matured and hand-turned, this soft cow's milk cheese develops a rich, buttery texture and mellow, savoury flavours.

A wonderfully indulgent addition to the cheeseboard.

Norfolk Dapple (approx. 250g)

Made by Ferndale Farm Dairy in Little Barningham, Norfolk.

A traditional hard cow's milk cheese with a distinctive dappled rind and deep, nutty, rounded flavours.

Firm, satisfying and full of character, Norfolk Dapple is one of the county's most recognisable artisan cheeses.

Jiffler (approx. 250g)

Made by Norfolk & Better.

A cow's milk cheese with a velvety texture, natural rind and gently savoury character.

Brined and matured to develop its distinctive flavour, Jiffler offers subtle herbal notes and a delicate saltiness.

A lovely contrast to the firmer cheeses in the selection.

The accompaniments

Five excellent Norfolk cheeses deserve accompaniments that complement rather than compete with them.

  • Pack of artisan cheese crackers – Carefully selected to accompany the different textures and flavours of the cheeses.
  • Jar of The Garden Pantry chutney – Handmade in Norfolk, providing a delicious sweet and savoury contrast to the selection.

Together, they create a complete cheeseboard, ready to enjoy or give as a gift.

Freshly cut by our cheesemongers

There's an important difference between buying a box of cheese and buying cheese from a proper cheesemonger.

At The Norfolk Deli, most of our cheeses are cut by hand specifically for your order, either on the day of dispatch or the day before.

We don't simply take a selection of pre-packed cheeses off a shelf and put them into a box.

Your cheeses are selected, cut and packed by people who work with artisan cheese every day.

All quoted weights are approximate, reflecting the nature of hand-cut cheese.

Cut cheeses will have a minimum shelf life of 10 days from cutting.

As artisan cheeses are produced in small batches, seasonal availability can occasionally affect our selection. Where necessary, we may substitute a cheese with a suitable alternative of comparable quality and value, always maintaining the Norfolk-made character of the cheeseboard.

For advice on storing and enjoying your selection, read our guide: The Truth About Unrefrigerated Cheese.

Packaging, delivery and gifting

We believe the cheese should be the impressive part, not the packaging.

You won't find unnecessary wicker baskets or elaborate presentation materials here.

Instead, your cheeses are carefully packed in an appropriately sized box, using insulation and ice packs to help protect them during their journey.

It's a practical approach that puts the quality and condition of the cheese first.

The price includes postage and packing, and you can add a personalised handwritten gift message at no additional charge.

Whether you're introducing someone to Norfolk cheese, sending a gift to a serious cheese enthusiast or planning a particularly good cheeseboard of your own, this is a delicious way to discover what Norfolk's independent cheesemakers have to offer.

  • Cheese Delivery Delayed?

Cheese is a living, matured food. It is considerably more resilient than many people assume and was enjoyed for centuries before refrigerated transport existed.

Answering your everyday cheese questions

How long will this cheese last?

All cheeses are cut fresh at the counter and dispatched in insulated packaging.

For the best flavour, we recommend enjoying within 5–7 days of delivery. Hard cheeses may last longer if stored correctly.

How should I store this cheese?

Keep refrigerated in its original wrapping or waxed paper. Avoid airtight plastic containers. Always bring to room temperature 30–45 minutes before serving for the best flavour and texture.

Is this cheese suitable for freezing?

We don’t recommend freezing soft or blue cheeses as it can affect texture. Hard cheeses may be frozen for cooking purposes, but flavour is best when enjoyed fresh.

What if my cheese has mould on it?

Mould is a natural part of many artisan cheeses.

If the cheese is meant to have a white rind, blue veining or natural mould, this is completely normal and part of its character.

If you notice surface mould on a hard cheese, it can usually be trimmed away safely — simply cut at least 1cm around and beneath the mould.

If mould appears on a soft cheese that is not intended to have mould, or if you are unsure, please contact us and we will advise.

We only dispatch cheeses in excellent condition, selected at peak maturity.

Is this cheese safe during pregnancy?

Pasteurised cheeses are generally considered safe. If a cheese is unpasteurised, this will be clearly stated in the Key Facts section. If unsure, please consult current NHS guidance

Can I request a specific size?

Weights are approximate to ensure fairness and quality. If you require a specific size for an event, please contact us before ordering.

Can this cheese be included in a hamper or cheeseboard selection?

Yes. Many of our cheeses are available in curated cheeseboards, gift hampers or our Cheesemonger’s Selection.
