The Norfolk Deli Business Guide to Corporate Gifting

What does your Christmas hamper say about your business?

The Norfolk Deli is an independent deli and corporate hamper supplier based in Hunstanton, Norfolk. We create corporate gift hampers featuring food and drink from independent Norfolk producers, with UK-wide delivery for client, staff and business gifting.

Every year, businesses across Norfolk send hampers to customers, employees, colleagues and suppliers.

Usually, the intention is a good one.

Thank you. We appreciate your business. We value the relationship. We appreciate what you've done for us this year.

But there's another question worth asking.

Does the gift you send actually communicate any of that?

Or has corporate gifting become another job on the Christmas list?

Find a hamper. Choose a budget. Upload the addresses. Add a message. Job done.

There is nothing wrong with that approach. A beautifully presented hamper from a large national company will still be gratefully received.

But if you're going to spend the money anyway, could your gift work a little harder?

Could it say something about who you are, where you're from and what your business values?

We think it can.

Start with why you're sending a gift

Before deciding what to buy, it's worth asking a deceptively simple question:

Why are we sending this person a gift?

Perhaps they're an important customer. Perhaps they've supported your business throughout the year. Perhaps they're a supplier who has gone above and beyond. Or perhaps they're a member of your team whose contribution deserves recognition.

Whatever the reason, you're not really sending them cheese, biscuits, chutney, chocolate or wine.

You're sending a message.

You're saying that the relationship matters.

And if that's the purpose, shouldn't the gift itself say something too?

What does a generic hamper say about your business?

There are some enormous hamper companies in the UK offering hundreds of combinations at virtually every imaginable price.

They're convenient. They look impressive. And they make corporate gifting extremely easy.

But convenience isn't necessarily the same thing as thoughtfulness.

Many hampers are assembled from products that could have come from almost anywhere. They're designed to appeal to almost everyone, which inevitably means they say very little about the business sending them.

There is nothing inherently wrong with that.

Generic isn't bad. It's simply generic.

But there's a danger that corporate gifting becomes a process rather than a gesture.

Someone has a spreadsheet. A budget is approved. A hamper is selected. Addresses are uploaded. The boxes arrive.

Efficient? Absolutely.

Memorable? Perhaps not.

If the recipient could receive essentially the same hamper from a business in Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol or Glasgow, what does it actually say about your business?

You're a Norfolk business. Why not make that part of the gift?

Where a business comes from can be part of its identity.

Norfolk has an extraordinary community of independent food and drink producers: cheesemakers, brewers, distillers, bakers, preservers, chocolatiers, coffee roasters and many more.

So if you're proud to be a Norfolk business, why wouldn't you make something of that when choosing your gifts?

Imagine opening a hamper and discovering not simply a collection of nice things to eat and drink, but a taste of the place the sender calls home.

Products made by real Norfolk businesses. Products with provenance. Products the recipient may never have encountered before. Products with stories behind them.

A cheese they've never tried. A chutney made in a Norfolk village. Coffee roasted in the county. Chocolate from a small independent producer. A bottle from a Norfolk brewery, vineyard or distillery.

Discovery becomes part of the gift.

Suddenly, you're not simply saying:

"Thank you."

You're saying:

"Thank you. We're proud to be a Norfolk business, and we'd like to share a little of our county with you."

That's a very different message.

Think about the £75, not just the hamper

Imagine you've been asked to organise 40 corporate hampers with a budget of around £75 each.

That's a £3,000 purchasing decision.

The obvious question is:

What can we get for £75?

But perhaps there's a better question:

What are we trying to achieve with the £3,000?

You're not really purchasing 40 boxes of food.

You're creating 40 opportunities to reinforce a relationship.

That changes how you look at price.

Perhaps one hamper costs £65 and another costs £75.

The £65 hamper might contain more products. It may even look bigger.

But if spending another £10 buys better products, genuine provenance, individuality, a story and a more memorable experience, the question isn't simply whether the hamper is worth £10 more.

It's whether that additional £10 creates considerably more than £10 of perceived value.

If you're thanking a customer who may spend thousands of pounds with your company, recognising a valued employee or strengthening an important business relationship, that's worth thinking about.

The objective isn't necessarily to give more.

It's to give better.

Does your gift reflect your business?

For a Norfolk business, choosing gifts made by independent Norfolk producers means some of that gifting budget stays within the county, supporting other businesses, producers and employment here.

But there's something else.

The recipient should feel that the gift came from your business, rather than from the company that happened to pack the box.

That doesn't mean covering everything with corporate logos.

Sometimes a simple explanation of why you've chosen the gift says far more:

"We're proud to call Norfolk home, so this Christmas we wanted to share some of our favourite things being made around the county. Thank you for being part of our year. We hope you enjoy discovering them."

Now the gift has context.

The products, the place and your business are connected.

And that's something a logo on a ribbon can't necessarily achieve

Before choosing your corporate hampers, ask four questions

Why are we sending this gift?

What do we want the recipient to feel when they open it?

Does our choice say anything about who we are and what we value?

Will they remember it?

There aren't necessarily right or wrong answers.

But there is a difference between buying a hamper and choosing a gift.

Still not sure which hamper is right? Our Which Hamper Should I Choose? guide will help you narrow it down.

Which Hamper Should I Choose? guide

A little bit of Norfolk in a box

At The Norfolk Deli, we've been discovering and working with independent Norfolk food and drink producers since 2014

And when we describe something as a Norfolk Hamper, we mean it.

Our Norfolk Hamper Pledge is simple: if we call it a Norfolk Hamper, every product inside it is made in Norfolk.

Not Norfolk-themed. Not packed in Norfolk using products made elsewhere. Made in Norfolk.

It means a Norfolk business can send its customers, employees, colleagues or suppliers something that genuinely represents the county it is proud to call home.

And whether you're sending a handful of gifts or organising hampers for customers and teams across the country, the principle remains the same.

Sometimes the best corporate gift isn't the one containing the most things.

It's the one that says the most.

Don't just send them a hamper.

Send them a little of where you're from.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a Norfolk Deli corporate hamper different?

We're an independent deli, not a corporate gifting or fulfilment company, and we don't simply fill boxes with products that happen to fit a particular price point.

The products in our hampers are products we know, sell in our deli and online, and genuinely believe are worth giving. Every hamper is thoughtfully put together around quality, provenance and how the products work together — not simply familiar names or convenient fillers.

We've been working with Norfolk's independent food and drink producers since 2014, and for businesses wanting to share something of where they're from, our Norfolk Hampers go one step further: every product inside is made in Norfolk.

Add personal service, options for different budgets, multiple-address delivery and help choosing the right gifts, and the result is something rather different from a mass-produced corporate hamper.

It's a gift that feels as though it has been chosen, rather than simply ordered.

Are all the products in your Norfolk hampers actually made in Norfolk?

Our Norfolk Hamper Pledge is very simple: if we call it a Norfolk Hamper, every product inside it is made in Norfolk.

That means made here, not simply sold, packed or distributed from Norfolk.

We work with independent producers from across the county, so when you send one of our Norfolk hampers, you're sending a genuine taste of Norfolk.

How much should I spend on a corporate hamper?

There isn't a single right amount.

It depends on who you're thanking, the nature and value of the relationship, the number of gifts you're sending and your overall budget.

We would always suggest thinking about value rather than simply price. A slightly more thoughtful or distinctive gift can create considerably more impact than spending the same amount on something larger but more generic.

We can help you choose appropriate options for your budget and recipients.

Can you provide corporate hampers at different price points?

Yes.  Whether you're thanking a large team, sending gifts to a select group of important customers or looking for something particularly special, we can help you find options appropriate to your budget.

If you're ordering several hampers, they don't necessarily all have to be the same either. Different recipients or groups can be matched with different gifts.

Can I send corporate hampers to multiple addresses?

Yes. We can send individual hampers directly to customers, employees, colleagues or suppliers at different addresses throughout the UK.

For larger orders, we can also provide a simple spreadsheet template for supplying recipient names, delivery addresses, gift messages and other relevant information, making a multiple-address order much easier to manage. Delivery costs are included in the price of all our corporate hamper options, which means no nasty extra charges.

Can I include a personal or company message?

Yes.  A message can make an enormous difference to how a corporate gift is received, particularly when you explain why you've chosen it.

Something as simple as:

"We're proud to call Norfolk home, so this Christmas we wanted to share a few of our favourite things being made around the county. Thank you for being part of our year."

turns the hamper from a delivery into a much more personal gift.

Can you help me choose the right hampers?

Absolutely.

You don't need to know exactly what you want before contacting us.

Tell us who the gifts are for, approximately how many you need, your budget and what you'd like the gift to achieve, and we can help you identify suitable options.

If you're choosing an individual gift, our Which Hamper Should I Choose? guide can also help narrow down the choices.

Do you deliver corporate hampers nationwide?

Yes. Our corporate hampers can be delivered throughout the UK, either to one location or directly to individual customers, colleagues or employees at multiple addresses.

UK delivery is included in the price of our corporate hamper options, making it easier to set your gifting budget without having to calculate additional delivery charges.

How far in advance should I order corporate Christmas hampers?

The earlier you can start planning, the better, particularly for larger orders or if you have specific requirements.

Planning ahead gives you more choice, allows time to organise multiple delivery addresses and messages, and makes it easier to arrange your preferred delivery dates.

If you have a large corporate order in mind, we'd recommend speaking to us as early as possible rather than waiting until December.

Are corporate hampers just for Christmas?

Not at all.

Corporate hampers can be used throughout the year to thank customers, recognise employees, celebrate milestones, welcome new clients, mark anniversaries or congratulate someone on an achievement.

Sometimes a thank-you gift can actually have more impact when it isn't expected.

Do you offer bulk corporate hamper orders?

Yes. We can handle anything from a small number of client or staff gifts to larger corporate hamper orders. For multiple-recipient orders, we can help with hamper selection, budgets, gift messages, delivery dates and deliveries to different addresses across the UK.

For larger orders, our Bulk Orders service makes supplying recipient and delivery information straightforward.
