Cheese Delivery & Freshness

Your cheese is cut fresh to order from our cheese counter, carefully wrapped and packed for delivery. We dispatch cheese Monday to Thursday, deliberately avoiding Friday dispatches so that your cheese isn't left in the courier network over the weekend.Whilst we always aim for prompt delivery, courier delivery dates cannot be guaranteed, and occasional delays do occur. The good news is that cheese is far more resilient than many people realise. Most traditional cheeses can comfortably withstand short transit delays and, in the vast majority of cases, delayed parcels arrive in excellent condition. If your parcel is delayed, simply refrigerate your cheese on arrival and allow it to come back to room temperature before serving. For more information about delivery, storing your cheese and what to do when it arrives, please see our Cheese Delivery & Care Guide →

Make More of Your Selection

You've found something you like. What would you like to do next?

The Cheesemonger’s Notes

Five European cheeses. Five distinctive characters. One delicious journey across the continent.

Britain makes some extraordinary cheese. But we'd be missing out on an enormous amount of good cheese if we never ventured beyond our own shores.

The Continental Cheeseboard brings together five distinctive European cheeses, carefully selected to showcase the remarkable variety of cheesemaking traditions found across the continent.

From the creamy richness of French Brie and the nutty character of Spanish Manchego to the mellow blue veining of Grand Noir and the unmistakable aroma of washed-rind cheese, this is a cheeseboard with plenty to discover.

You'll find cheeses representing different countries, different traditions and very different approaches to cheesemaking. Some are familiar favourites, while others offer an opportunity to discover something new.

And because we're cheesemongers, not simply hamper packers, every cheese has been chosen for the contribution it makes to the complete selection.

Five cheeses. Approximately 1.25kg. A proper taste of continental Europe.

Inside this cheeseboard you'll find

The cheeses

Starnachas (approx. 250g)

A Swiss-style cheese with a firm, smooth texture and beautifully developed nutty, savoury flavours.

Matured to bring out its distinctive Alpine character, Starnachas offers a satisfying depth of flavour with a gentle sweetness.

A lovely example of the qualities that make Alpine-style cheeses so popular.

Grand Noir (approx. 250g)

Made in Germany.

A distinctive blue cheese presented in its characteristic black wax coating.

Beneath that striking exterior is a wonderfully creamy cheese with delicate blue veining, rich flavours and a mellow, balanced tang.

An excellent choice for anyone who enjoys blue cheese without wanting something overwhelmingly strong.

Drunk Monk (approx. 250g)

A characterful washed-rind cheese with a rich aroma and complex flavour.

Washed with brandy during maturation, Drunk Monk develops a distinctive personality, combining a savoury depth with a wonderfully smooth texture.

A cheese that brings something rather different to the selection.

French Brie (approx. 250g)

A classic pasteurised French Brie with a soft, bloomy rind and a rich, buttery interior.

Creamy and mellow, with gentle mushroomy notes, this is one of the great traditional styles of French cheesemaking.

An approachable favourite that provides a lovely contrast to the more mature and assertive cheeses in the collection.

Manchego (approx. 250g)

Made in Spain using milk from Manchega sheep.

One of Spain's most celebrated cheeses, Manchego has a firm texture and a distinctive nutty flavour, balanced by gentle sweetness and a satisfying savoury finish.

A wonderful example of the character that ewe's milk brings to traditional cheesemaking.

The accompaniments

Good continental cheese deserves accompaniments that allow the different flavours and textures to shine.

  • Pack of artisan cheese crackers – Carefully selected to complement both soft and hard cheeses without overpowering their flavours.
  • Jar of The Garden Pantry chutney – Handmade in Norfolk, providing a delicious sweet and savoury contrast to the selection.

Together, they create a complete cheeseboard, ready to enjoy, share or give as a gift.

Freshly cut by our cheesemongers

There's an important difference between buying a box of cheese and buying cheese from a proper cheesemonger.

At The Norfolk Deli, most of our cheeses are cut by hand specifically for your order, either on the day of dispatch or the day before.

We don't simply take a selection of pre-packed cheeses off a shelf and put them into a box.

Your cheeses are selected, cut and packed by people who work with artisan cheese every day.

All quoted weights are approximate, reflecting the nature of hand-cut cheese.

Cut cheeses will have a minimum shelf life of 10 days from cutting.

For advice on storing and enjoying your selection, read our guide: The Truth About Unrefrigerated Cheese.

Packaging, delivery and gifting

We believe the cheese should be the impressive part, not the packaging.

You won't find unnecessary wicker baskets or elaborate presentation materials here.

Instead, your cheeses are carefully packed in an appropriately sized box, using insulation and ice packs to help protect them during their journey.

It's a practical approach that puts the quality and condition of the cheese first.

The price includes postage and packing, and you can add a personalised handwritten gift message at no additional charge.

Whether you're sending a gift to someone who appreciates good cheese, entertaining friends or simply looking to discover some of Europe's most interesting cheesemaking traditions, The Continental Cheeseboard is a delicious place to start.

  • Cheese Delivery Delayed?

Cheese is a living, matured food. It is considerably more resilient than many people assume and was enjoyed for centuries before refrigerated transport existed.

Answering your everyday cheese questions

How long will this cheese last?

All cheeses are cut fresh at the counter and dispatched in insulated packaging.

For the best flavour, we recommend enjoying within 5–7 days of delivery. Hard cheeses may last longer if stored correctly.

How should I store this cheese?

Keep refrigerated in its original wrapping or waxed paper. Avoid airtight plastic containers. Always bring to room temperature 30–45 minutes before serving for the best flavour and texture.

Is this cheese suitable for freezing?

We don’t recommend freezing soft or blue cheeses as it can affect texture. Hard cheeses may be frozen for cooking purposes, but flavour is best when enjoyed fresh.

What if my cheese has mould on it?

Mould is a natural part of many artisan cheeses.

If the cheese is meant to have a white rind, blue veining or natural mould, this is completely normal and part of its character.

If you notice surface mould on a hard cheese, it can usually be trimmed away safely — simply cut at least 1cm around and beneath the mould.

If mould appears on a soft cheese that is not intended to have mould, or if you are unsure, please contact us and we will advise.

We only dispatch cheeses in excellent condition, selected at peak maturity.

Is this cheese safe during pregnancy?

Pasteurised cheeses are generally considered safe. If a cheese is unpasteurised, this will be clearly stated in the Key Facts section. If unsure, please consult current NHS guidance

Can I request a specific size?

Weights are approximate to ensure fairness and quality. If you require a specific size for an event, please contact us before ordering.

Can this cheese be included in a hamper or cheeseboard selection?

Yes. Many of our cheeses are available in curated cheeseboards, gift hampers or our Cheesemonger’s Selection.
