Why It’s On Our Shelves

A bold Ethiopian espresso with rich dark chocolate, toffee and tamarind notes

Rebellion Espresso is a distinctive single-origin coffee from the high-altitude hills of Lalesa in Gedeb, Ethiopia. Expertly roasted by Norfolk Coffee Company, this medium espresso roast delivers a bold, flavour-packed cup that showcases the remarkable character of Ethiopian coffee.

Produced by Ephtah and grown between 2,150 and 2,200 metres above sea level, Rebellion is crafted using an anaerobic natural process that develops exceptional depth, sweetness and complexity. The result is a rich espresso with notes of dark chocolate, toffee and tamarind, complemented by a lingering finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.

While designed with espresso lovers in mind, Rebellion also performs beautifully in cafetières, stovetop brewers and other manual brewing methods, revealing different layers of flavour as it cools.

About The Farm

The Lalesa coffee site was established by Ephtah in 2023 and sits high in the mountains of Gedeb, one of Ethiopia's most respected coffee-growing regions. The 3.5-hectare farm cultivates traditional Ethiopian Heirloom varieties beneath the shade of Ensete trees, often referred to as the false banana tree.

Coffee cherries are carefully fermented in sealed barrels for nine days before being dried on raised beds for up to eighteen days. This meticulous anaerobic natural process helps create the intense sweetness and complexity found in the finished cup.

Beyond coffee production, Ephtah has invested in community projects including a daycare centre for farmers' children and participation in the Ama Commitment programme, which supports women coffee producers throughout the region.

During harvest season the farm employs up to 250 workers, providing valuable employment and supporting the local economy.
