Why It’s On Our Shelves
Hot Star Honey’s Miso & Tahini Honey Sauce brings together three ingredients with very different characteristics: naturally sweet honey, deeply savoury miso and rich, nutty tahini.
Produced in Norfolk by Hot Star →
The result is a wonderfully versatile sweet and savoury sauce with plenty of umami depth and a creamy, nutty character. It can be drizzled over roasted vegetables, used as a glaze for chicken or salmon, spooned over grain and rice bowls, or simply used as a dipping sauce when something needs an instant boost of flavour.
This is the sort of sauce that can turn a handful of relatively simple ingredients into something considerably more interesting.
What does Miso & Tahini Honey Sauce taste like?
Expect a balance of sweetness, savoury umami and creamy nuttiness.
The honey provides sweetness, while miso adds its characteristic salty, fermented umami flavour. Tahini – a paste made from sesame seeds – brings richness and a distinctive toasted, nutty character.
Together, they create a sauce that's difficult to categorise simply as sweet or savoury. Instead, each element balances the others: sweetness from the honey, depth from the miso and richness from the tahini.
What are miso and tahini?
Miso is a traditional Japanese fermented paste, usually made from soybeans, renowned for its rich, savoury umami flavour. It's widely used in soups, marinades, dressings, sauces and glazes.
Tahini is made from ground sesame seeds and has a smooth texture with a rich, earthy and distinctly nutty flavour. It's perhaps best known as an essential ingredient in hummus, but it's also excellent in dressings, dips and sauces.
Combine the two with honey and you have sweetness, saltiness, nuttiness and umami all working together.
What can you use Miso & Tahini Honey Sauce with?
Its balance of sweet and savoury flavours makes this an exceptionally versatile sauce.
Try it with:
- Roasted vegetables – particularly good with aubergine, cauliflower, squash, carrots and sweet potato
- Chicken – use as a glaze or drizzle over grilled or roasted chicken
- Salmon – miso and honey are natural partners for rich, oily fish
- Rice and grain bowls – drizzle over rice, vegetables, tofu, chicken or salmon
- Noodles – use to add instant sweet, nutty and savoury flavour
- Tofu – excellent as a glaze, dressing or dipping sauce
- Halloumi – sweet honey and nutty tahini work beautifully with salty cheese
- Salads – use as the starting point for a rich miso and tahini dressing
- Dipping – serve alongside vegetables, flatbreads or grilled food
Is Miso & Tahini Honey Sauce good with vegetables?
Very much so. In fact, this is a particularly useful sauce for making roasted and grilled vegetables more interesting.
Try drizzling it over roasted cauliflower, aubergine or squash, where the sweetness of the honey complements the caramelised vegetables while miso provides savoury depth and tahini adds richness.
It also works brilliantly as a finishing sauce for vegetable and grain bowls.

Not every sauce needs heat to make an impact.
Hot Star Honey Miso & Tahini Honey Sauce gets its character from the contrast between sweet honey, umami-rich miso and nutty sesame tahini. It's a combination that can add complexity to even the simplest plate of food.
Keep a bottle handy for quick lunches, rice bowls and roasted vegetables, or experiment with it as a glaze for chicken, salmon and tofu.
