Why It’s On Our Shelves
A beer brewed specifically to go with crisps. Now that's an idea we can get behind.
Some beer collaborations are all about pushing boundaries. Others are about answering life's really important questions. Like, what would happen if you brewed a beer specifically to enjoy with a packet of crisps?
That's exactly what Norfolk's Duration Brewery and London's Five Points Brewing Company decided to find out.
The result is Crisps, a wonderfully refreshing 4.6% Extra Extra Pale Ale (XXPA) that's light, crisp, beautifully dry and absolutely made for snacking.
The brewers have combined lager and pale malts with flaked rice to create a clean, snappy base that lets the hops do their thing. And what hops they are.
Riwaka and Nelson Sauvin bring vibrant notes of lime zest and white grape, delivering a refreshing combination of citrus brightness and delicate fruity character.
But here's where things get particularly interesting.
The brewers have added a touch of MSG, the same flavour-enhancing ingredient found in many savoury snacks. It helps amplify the beer's flavours, making those lovely hop characteristics really stand out.
The result? A super-dry, refreshingly crisp pale ale that's practically begging to be enjoyed alongside your favourite packet of crisps.
And frankly, who are we to argue?
