Why It’s On Our Shelves
There’s brown sauce — and then there’s Candi’s Fruity Brown Sauce.
Handcrafted in Norfolk by chef-turned-producer Candice Robertson, this is a small-batch alternative to mass-produced brown sauce, combining rich savoury flavour with fruity sweetness, warming spices, molasses and a balancing tang of vinegar.
The result is bold enough for a bacon sandwich or full English breakfast, but with considerably more versatility than the average bottle of brown sauce.
Candi’s Cupboard was founded in Norfolk in 2012 following Candice’s career as a professional chef. Her approach has always been about creating products with genuine flavour while championing British ingredients and the produce available across Norfolk and East Anglia.
What does Candi’s Fruity Brown Sauce taste like?
Expect a rich, tangy and gently sweet brown sauce with layers of fruit, spice and savoury depth.
The fruitiness rounds out the sharper vinegar notes, while molasses contributes a deeper sweetness. It is familiar enough to satisfy anyone who loves traditional British brown sauce, but distinctive enough to remind you that this has been created by a chef rather than a development kitchen.
Perfect with:
- Bacon sandwiches and sausage sandwiches
- Full English breakfasts
- Sausages and grilled meats
- Burgers and steak
- Pork pies and sausage rolls
- Chips and roast potatoes
- BBQ meats and marinades
- Cheese and cold-meat platters
Why choose an artisan brown sauce?
The difference is flavour.
Rather than simply providing sweetness and acidity, Candi’s Fruity Brown Sauce has been created to complement the food it accompanies. Fruit, spice, sweetness and acidity work together to give the sauce considerably more character than an everyday table condiment.
It is exactly the sort of product we look for at The Norfolk Deli: made in Norfolk, created by an independent producer and interesting enough to earn its place in the cupboard.
