Cheese Delivery & Freshness

Whilst we always aim for prompt delivery, courier delivery dates cannot be guaranteed, and occasional delays do occur. The good news is that cheese is far more resilient than many people realise. Most traditional cheeses can comfortably withstand short transit delays and, in the vast majority of cases, delayed parcels arrive in excellent condition. If your parcel is delayed, simply refrigerate your cheese on arrival and allow it to come back to room temperature before serving. For more information, please see our Cheese Care Guide

The Cheesemonger’s Notes

An expertly curated collection of Britain’s finest artisan cheeses

From the windswept Cornish coast to the green pastures of the Cotswolds, The Cheesemonger’s British Cheese Choice celebrates the best of British cheesemaking — a handpicked selection of exceptional artisan cheeses chosen for their depth, diversity, and craftsmanship.

Curated by The Norfolk Deli, this collection brings together eight award-winning cheeses from some of Britain’s most respected dairies — a perfect balance of soft, hard, and blue styles representing the Best of British flavour and tradition.

Whether you’re entertaining, gifting, or indulging, this cheeseboard captures everything that makes British cheese truly world-class.

Inside this collection you’ll find:

  • Doddington (approx. 250g) or Cheesemaker’s Special (approx. 250g) – Depending on availability, this will feature either Doddington, an award-winning farmhouse cheese from Northumberland with a nutty, Alpine-style depth, or Cheesemaker’s Special from Alsop & Walker in Sussex, a limited-batch creation selected for its outstanding balance and texture.

  • Cornish Yarg (approx. 250g) – From Lynher Dairies, Cornwall. A semi-hard cow’s milk cheese hand-wrapped in nettles, developing a creamy, fresh flavour with a hint of earthiness.

  • Colston Bassett Stilton (approx. 250g) – Made in Nottinghamshire by Colston Bassett Dairy, this classic blue cheese is creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced, offering the true taste of traditional Stilton.

  • Woodside Red (approx. 250g) – Crafted by Alsop & Walker, East Sussex. A vibrant Red Leicester-style cheese with a sweet, nutty character and beautiful deep orange colour — smooth, mellow, and full of flavour.

  • Tunworth (approx. 250g) – Produced by Hampshire Cheese Company. Often described as the British Camembert, this soft, bloomy-rind cow’s milk cheese is luxuriously creamy with gentle mushroom and earthy notes.

  • Burford (approx. 250g) – Made by King Stone Dairy in the Cotswolds. A smooth, Alpine-style cow’s milk cheese with nutty sweetness, grassy freshness, and a refined, buttery texture.

  • Stinking Bishop (approx. 250g) – The famous washed-rind cheese from Charles Martell & Son in Gloucestershire. Despite its cheeky name, it’s smooth, soft, and wonderfully complex, with a rich aroma and beautifully creamy, full-bodied flavour.

  • Pack of artisan cheese crackers (x2) – Carefully selected to complement the full range of cheeses.

  • Jar of The Garden Pantry chutney – Handmade in Norfolk, perfectly balanced to enhance the cheeseboard.

  • Jar of Candi’s Chutney – Crafted by Candi Robertson in Norfolk, offering bold, spiced notes that pair beautifully with rich cheeses.

  • Small jar of Eastgate Larder Medlar Jelly – Made by Jane Steward in Eastgate. Sweet, delicately spiced, and classically English.

Freshness & storage

Most cheeses are hand-cut to order, and while every effort is made to be as accurate as possible, the quoted weights are approximate. Cheeses are cut on the day of dispatch or at most the day before, ensuring maximum freshness and flavour.

Cut cheeses carry a minimum shelf life of 10 days from the date of cutting.

At The Norfolk Deli, we focus on quality and care — not decorative packaging. Your cheeses are packed in insulated boxes with ice packs to ensure they arrive in perfect condition ready to enjoy.

The price includes postage and packing, along with a personalised handwritten message, making this a thoughtful, ready-to-send gift for any cheese lover.

  • Cheese Delivery Delayed?

Cheese is a living, matured food. It is considerably more resilient than many people assume and was enjoyed for centuries before refrigerated transport existed.

  • Serving Guide

As part of a cheeseboard, 250g typically serves 2–4 people. For gatherings of 4–6, a selection of three to five cheeses creates a more generous and varied board

Answering your everyday cheese questions

How long will this cheese last?

All cheeses are cut fresh at the counter and dispatched in insulated packaging.

For the best flavour, we recommend enjoying within 5–7 days of delivery. Hard cheeses may last longer if stored correctly.

How should I store this cheese?

Keep refrigerated in its original wrapping or waxed paper. Avoid airtight plastic containers. Always bring to room temperature 30–45 minutes before serving for the best flavour and texture.

Is this cheese suitable for freezing?

We don’t recommend freezing soft or blue cheeses as it can affect texture. Hard cheeses may be frozen for cooking purposes, but flavour is best when enjoyed fresh.

What if my cheese has mould on it?

Mould is a natural part of many artisan cheeses.

If the cheese is meant to have a white rind, blue veining or natural mould, this is completely normal and part of its character.

If you notice surface mould on a hard cheese, it can usually be trimmed away safely — simply cut at least 1cm around and beneath the mould.

If mould appears on a soft cheese that is not intended to have mould, or if you are unsure, please contact us and we will advise.

We only dispatch cheeses in excellent condition, selected at peak maturity.

Is this cheese safe during pregnancy?

Pasteurised cheeses are generally considered safe. If a cheese is unpasteurised, this will be clearly stated in the Key Facts section. If unsure, please consult current NHS guidance

Can I request a specific size?

Weights are approximate to ensure fairness and quality. If you require a specific size for an event, please contact us before ordering.

Can this cheese be included in a hamper or cheeseboard selection?

Yes. Many of our cheeses are available in curated cheeseboards, gift hampers or our Cheesemonger’s Selection.
