Why It’s On Our Shelves
Samphire, gorse, sea buckthorn and elderflower – a coastal gin inspired by the landscape around Brancaster
Brancaster Gin takes its inspiration from the marshes, dunes and coastline surrounding Brancaster on the North Norfolk coast, using an unusual combination of coastal and countryside botanicals to create its distinctive character.
Alongside the classic juniper at the heart of the gin are samphire, gorse, sea buckthorn and elderflower – botanicals associated with the landscape around Brancaster – together with a dash of local honey.
Each contributes something different. Samphire brings herbaceous notes, elderflower adds gentle sweetness, gorse contributes mellow character, and sea buckthorn provides fresh citrus notes. The local honey helps round everything out, producing a smooth, fresh gin with a genuine connection to the landscape that inspired it.
What does Brancaster Gin taste like?
Expect a fresh, smooth and juniper-led gin with herbaceous, floral and citrus notes.
Juniper provides the familiar backbone, while samphire adds a distinctive green, herbaceous character. Elderflower adds gentle floral sweetness, sea buckthorn brings brighter citrus notes, and gorse rounds out the gin's character.
A dash of local Brancaster honey provides further smoothness, helping bring the different botanical elements together.
The result is recognisably a classic gin, but with a combination of botanicals that gives Brancaster Gin its own distinctive coastal identity.
Inspired by the North Norfolk coast
The character of Brancaster Gin begins with the landscape surrounding the village from which it takes its name.
Samphire, gorse, sea buckthorn and elderflower are all associated with the marshes, dunes, hedgerows and coastline around Brancaster. Rather than simply borrowing a coastal name, Brancaster Drinks has used those flavours as inspiration for the gin itself.
It's intended to capture an early morning walk across the marshes, through the dunes, and onto the wide-open sands of Brancaster Beach, herbaceous, floral, and fresh, with a distinctly coastal character.
An award-winning Brancaster Gin
Brancaster Gin has been recognised with a Silver Medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC).
The IWSC judging panel highlighted its clean juniper and subtle citrus aromas, followed by pine and juniper on the palate and a balanced, lingering finish.
That recognition puts some independent weight behind what makes Brancaster Gin interesting: this isn't simply a gin carrying the name of a Norfolk village, but a carefully constructed combination of classic gin character and botanicals inspired by its coastal surroundings.
