Dark Naval Rum 57% ABV 70cl has a storied past, dating to before Norfolk Rum was founded in 2020. Packaged at a hefty 57% ABV, this Navy Strength rum was stocked aboard Royal Navy ships and is sure to get your pulse racing. Back then, rum was stored in barrels near gunpowder, so having an ABV that was high enough to ignite the gunpowder was a necessity. With the invention of the hydrometer by Bartholomew Sikes in 1816, the Navy tested a 54.5% ABV rum and found it to be sufficient. Thus, the British Navy Strength was born at 54.5%, though many brands (including ours) are 57%. Our rum is created with premium scratch distilled rum, offering a robust taste that highlights notes of caramel, sweet treacle, and dark fruits, making it a delight for sipping.
